Computer Classes Scheduled

Once again the library will be offering computer classes. We have made some changes, so be sure to read and find out what you have to do to participate. You MUST sign up for the classes you wish to take. It will take at least 5 peoplesigned up for a class to be offered. The first 10 people who sign up for a class will be assured a computer for the hands on portion of the class. If you are not one of the first 10, you are welcome to come watch the class, but you will not have a computer for the hands-on time. Please sign up on the form on page 8 and return this to the library by Friday, May 9th. You will be notified if a class does not make. Please call 757-2151 or check the website www.lacygnelibrary.org before driving in for a class. If you sign up for a class and will not be able to make it, please call 757-2151 and let Janet know you will not be attending.

3. Wednesday, June 4th @ 6:30 PM Advanced E-Mail—Learn how to attach photos and documents to your E-Mail, create folders, delete E-Mails

and how to send Forwards correctly. (Hands-on)

4. Monday, June 9th @ 6:30 PM Basic Internet—You will learn terminology, how to navigate the Net and sites to visit. (Hands-on)

5. Monday, June 16th @ 6:30 PM Advanced Internet—You will learn search techniques, how to bookmark your favorite sites, what not to do with

pop-up ads, and how the Internet can help you answer questions. (Hands-on)

6. Monday, June 23rd @ 6:30 PM Protect Your Computer—Now that you’re getting E-Mails and Surfing the Net, you need to be extra sure that

your computer is protected. What about those viruses, spyware, adware, and more that are lurking out there hoping to find a computer to damage???

(Lecture)

7. Monday, June 30th @ 6:30 PM Word Processing—Basics—Learn how to create a document from the beginning using MS Word 2003. You

will set margins, pick a font, a text color, text size and learn to print your creation. (Hands-on)

8. Monday, July 7th @ 6:30 PM Word Processing—Advanced—You will learn how to be creative with your documents, insert graphics, pictures,

Word Art, columns, copy and paste, and how to make address labels using Word. (Hands-on)

9. Monday, July 14th @ 6:30 PM Excel Basics—Introduction to what a spreadsheet is and how it works. You will learn some basic formulas, that

will help you set up a budget. (Hands-on)

10. Monday, July 21st @ 6:30 PM Power Point—Do you need to give a presentation for work, church or a family reunion? Power Point allows you

to mix text, pictures, graphics, charts and even music to create a memorable presentation. (Word Basic & Advanced required before taking this

class or knowledge of how to insert, copy and paste items.) (Hands-on)

11. Monday, July 28th @ 6:30 PM Publisher—Need a poster, card, certificate, flyer, brochure?? This program can help you. There are many templates

to choose from, or if you’re brave create your own. (Word Basic & Advanced required before taking this class or knowledge of how to insert,

copy and paste items.) (Hands-on)

12. Monday, Aug. 4th @ 6:30 PM Digital Cameras—Introduction to basics about cameras, discuss pros and cons of various cameras, and learn

how to get the pictures from your camera to something you can use. (Lecture)

13. Monday, Aug. 11th @ 6:30 PM Genealogy on Computers & Internet—What’s new, and how can you keep it organized. Lecture and some

hands-on.

14. Monday, Aug. 18th @6:30 PM Windows Vista—The new operating system...good, bad, & ugly...what you need to know about this system and

how it compares to XP. (Lecture & Demo)

15. Monday, Aug. 25th @ 6:30 PM Homework Kansas—School has started and your kids need a tutor in English, Science, Math, or history!!

Learn how Kansas Libraries have banded together to help you and your child have a successful school year. (Lecture & Demo)

16. Monday, Sept. 8th @ 6:30 PM Databases and World Book Encyclopedia online—Where can you go to get reliable resources for your child to

use for a research paper, or if you need to find out about a disease or a company. Kansas State Library & Kan-Ed have joined together to bring

you the Kansas Database collection. (Lecture, Demo, Hands on)

17. Monday, Sept. 15th @ 6:30 PM Internet Safety—You hear about children, teens and adults who get into trouble while surfing and chatting on

the Net. Learn some ways to keep you and your child safe while enjoying the benefits of the Internet, (Lecture)

18. By Appointment ONLY—Scanning Pictures—set up a one hour appointment with staff to learn how to scan your photographs, crop them, save

them, E-mail them, and print them. If time permits you will have an opportunity to play with some of the editing features on the HP director program.

19. Contact Janet if there are other topics that you would like the library to offer. Get a group of 5 people together and we’ll try to make a

time for your class.
