Purpose:  To build support in the community for Library District #2 of Linn County, LaCygne.  To encourage gifts, endowments, bequests, and memorials to the library.  To enhance the image, materials, services and facilities of the Library by undertaking specific projects on its behalf.  To maintain an association of individuals, civic organizations, businesses, and other groups interested in the promotion and futrue enhancement of the Library.  To create public awareness of the activities of the Friends of the LaCygne Library and encourage participation in the organization.  To actively support programs and projects of the LaCygne Library including capital expenditures for buildings, equipment, and other special projects approved by the Library Board of Trustees. Membership:  Open to anyone interested in supporting its purposes. Organizations, clubs, and businesses may become members.  Each individual or organization will be entitled to one vote at official meetings of the organization.

Suggested donation for membership dues are as follows...

$1000  Lifetime Membership
Four years have passed since the Friends organization was formed.  We thank you for your suport.  The group, though small, has been active during its first year.  Your support made the following accomplishments possible.
  • Purchase of podium for speakers to use
  • Designed and sold book bags to public advertising our library
  • Sponsored 8 Humanities Programs in 2005, 2006, and 2007
  • Sponsored the 2005,2006, & 2007 Summer Reading Programs
  • Sponsored two Chuck Wagon Dinners and a Fried chicken dinner with LaCygne Elem.
  • Became a 501c3 non-profit organization (so all donations are tax deductible)
  • Received a Grant from Friends of Kansas Libraries
  • Sponsored Children's Book week activies, purchased books for "Kansas Reads to Preschoolers" 2005, 2006, and 2007
  • Read basket drawings 2006 @ Iota Tau Christmas activity
  • Provided a bar-b-que dinner for Grand Opening of new library.
 The groups' bylaws filed with the IRS indicate that the fiscal year runs from July 1st to June 30th.   Membership donations are due one year from your joining the organization.   Your tax-deductible contributions will help the Friends group continue to support the activities of the Library.  

2009 FOL Projects

  • 2009 Read Across America "Happy 50th Birthday Cat in the Hat!"  (It was a big success)
  • Second Basket Raffle--Feb. 22nd (thanks to all who donated baskets and bought tickets)
  • Friends Fundraiser--April 22nd  in conjunction with LaCygne Elementary (Sensational Student Showcase & Spaghetti Supper)
  • Received a FOKL grant and sponsored a visiting artist Kevin Honeycutt to present at LaCygne Elementary School
  • Sponsor Summer Reading 2009
  • Co-Sponsored Story Hour on the Road & Summer Book Camp
  • Sponsor Kansas Humanities Programs 2009
  • 2nd Annual Christmas Homes Tour and miniature Christmas tree Raffle.
